Words that pointed at something already present
Encountering specific words at the right moment. Accounts consistently name particular books and teachers: Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now, Ramana Maharshi, Adyashanti, the Tao Te Ching all appear as catalysts. The teaching didn't cause the recognition; it pointed at something already present.
Several accounts describe reading a passage and something clicking, not as new information but as a recognition of what had always been true. The words seemed to work on something beyond the conceptual mind.
But then, you know, when I went through this thing in 2002, I suddenly was very comfortable with the words of Christ, and went back and started reading the New Testament, and the meaning of some of these passages would just leap off the page at me.
Recognition of the self is the self — honor that recognition. It was like that sentence just blew everything up. All these years I'd been reading books from great beings — the place they are speaking from is the same place that is here.
Because otherwise, it's like reading books on cookery � you can learn it parrot-fashion, but unless you actually experientially taste what this is talking about, all the words in the world are useless.
